Tour Plan - 4 Nights / 5 Days

Day 1 / Airport - Sigiriya
Once you arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, which is one of the two international airports serving the city of Colombo, you will be greeted by our tour representatives, and from there your journey towards Sigiriya will begin. Upon arriving in Sigiriya you will check-in at the hotel, and spend the rest of the day at leisure to acclimatize.

Day 2 / Sigiriya - Dambulla - Anuradhapura
After breakfast you will be taken on a tour to Anuradhapura.

On your way to Anuradhapura, you will visit the Dambulla cave temple, which is also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, a World Heritage Site. It is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka and the rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains. Major attractions are spread over 5 caves, which contain statues and paintings related to Lord Buddha’s life. A total of 160 statues; 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of gods and goddesses are found here. The murals cover an area of 2,100 square metres.

Anuradhapura was one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Sri Lankan civilization. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and was the centre of Theravada Buddhism for many centuries. A Sri Lankan tour is never complete without a visit to Anuradhapura and that’s exactly why we start our package with it.

You will return back to Sigiriya and will spend the night at a hotel in Sigiriya.
Day 3 / Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya
After breakfast you will be taken on a tour to Polonnaruwa. On your way to Polonnaruwa you will make your way to Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Sigiriya is an ancient palace located in the central Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. King Kasyapa built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes and the gateway is in the form of an enormous lion. Sigiriya today is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site.

Your next stop would be at Polonnaruwa. The second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first declared the capital city by King Vijayabahu I, who defeated the Chola invaders in 1070 to reunite the country once more under a local leader. Today the ancient city of Polonnaruwa remains one of the best planned archaeological relic sites in the country, standing testimony to the discipline and greatness of the Kingdom's first rulers. Its beauty was also used as a backdrop to filmed scenes for the Duran Duran music video Save a Prayer in 1982. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. A tourist attraction in Polonnaruwa is the Gal Vihara, where you will see three enormous Buddha statues carved out of one single rock.

You will return back to Sigiriya and will spend the night at a hotel in Sigiriya.
Day 4 / Sigiriya - Kandy
On day 4 you will start your journey towards Kandy. Kandy is the second largest city in the country after Colombo and was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. The main roads Colombo-Kandy and Kandy-Nuwara Eliya are two of the most scenic roads of Sri Lanka; Colombo-Kandy road passes through rubber plantations and rice paddies, Kandy-Nuwara Eliya road cuts through paddy fields and seamless tea plantations. Also known as the hill capital of Sri Lanka and hosts the annual Esela Perehera that takes place in the month of August showcasing more than 100 finely decorated elephants.

You will also be taken to watch the Kandyan dance, and then to see the Dalada Maligawa. Kandy is the home of The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. It was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.

Your overnight stay will be at a hotel in Kandy.
Day 5 / Kandy - Colombo
On this day you will leave back for Colombo. You will continue the journey to Colombo, and will enjoy a brief Colombo city tour, in an open bus or a vehicle of choice based on the weather.

Then you will leave for the airport in time for the departure flight.
